=======---- Professional V6.0.1 ----=======
THE DEMONSTRATION VERSION DOCS
MARTIN REDDY, 1997
BACKGROUND
~~~~~~~~~~
"EdWord was originally released as a shareware product early in 1992 as V2.2
It has since been totally rewritten and substantially improved. The result
is EdWord Professional V4.1 - the fruits of practically four long years of
sleepless nights and guru-infested frustrations softened only by the lure
of Salami, Chicken & Sweetcorn pizzas complemented with intravenous Irn Bru
and the uplifting dream that one day I will actually finish the damn thing!
Well, as is often the case, the light at the end of the tunnel seemed to be
an oncoming train and I never really managed to finish my tinkerings with
EdWord - it would call to me in the night and I would have to obey and add
something extra to it or pep up an old and slow routine. Okay I'll admit it
I was an addict, but it wasn't my fault. It all started so innocently, just
a casual bet from a friend that I couldn't do it. Then it started. At first
it was just the odd procedure each couple of days, but very soon I couldn't
make it through the day without at least an hour of programming and then my
passion consumed me and I couldn't stay away from it. If I was ever parted
from my keyboard for more than a day I would break down into a pitiful,
shivering wreck, yearning to get my fix. But fear not because there is a
happy ending to this rather sad story of teenage addiction gone crazy
because I've almost kicked the habit and gone cold turkey. This is it, the
final version of EdWord! It's over. Finished. Completed. (Or is it???)"
[M.Reddy, EdWord Pro V4.1 Docs]
SO WHAT DOES IT DO?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's called EdWord so what do you think it does?? Yeah, it edits words. Or
put in plainer terms, it's a text editor. I'll not bore you with all the
details of what it can do here because you can get that from the other doc
files which come with this demo version.
WHAT'S THIS DOC FILE FOR THEN???
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, you may have noticed the word "Demonstration" somewhere in the above
text. That's because the copy of EdWord which you have is a demo of the
full version. It will work perfectly well and there are no major
constraints on the program's operation. You will however be continually
pestered by a cute little requester reminding you that you are using a
demonstration version and that you should really clear your conscience and
register with me. The idea being that you can see how the program works,
but the messages are just a little bit too irritable if you really intend
to use it; so then you will want to register for the full version. So,
while we're on the subject, the following is a list of what you get if you
do actually register the program for the modest fee of £15:
· An updated version of the editor with no annoying messages
· A large hypertext help facility which documents "Everything You Ever
Wanted To Know About EdWord But Were Too Scared To Register For"
(This is currently around 275K of ASCII text in AmigaGuide format
with the AmigaGuide program. The other doc files with this demo
are extracts from this help library).
· Complete documentation on the ARexx commands which EdWord supports
and a host of example ARexx scripts for use within the editor, e.g.
AddLineNumbers.epxx Alarm.epxx
Amiga2IBM.epxx ANSI_Background.epxx
ANSI_Bold.epxx ANSI_Foreground.epxx
ANSI_Italics.epxx ANSI_Plain.epxx
ANSI_Underline.epxx CapitalBlock.epxx
CentreBlock.epxx CheckStructure.epxx
DoubleSpaceBlock.epxx E-MailReplyBlock.epxx
FormatBlock.epxx FullJustifyBlock.epxx
IBM2Amiga.epxx InsertDate.epxx
InsertTime.epxx LaTeX_Bold.epxx
LaTeX_Emphasise.epxx LaTeX_Typewritter.epxx
LaTeX_Underline.epxx LeftJustifyBlock.epxx
LowerBlock.epxx MoveBlock-->.epxx
MoveBlock<--.epxx RightJustifyBlock.epxx
SingleSpaceBlock.epxx SortFile.epxx
SpeakBlock.epxx StripANSICodes.epxx
StripBlankLines.epxx StripEOLBlanks.epxx
UpperBlock.epxx
· The complete set of Keyword Definition Files for use with the
Text Casing facility. A couple have been supplied with this demo
version (the #?.key files) but there is a set of 19 of them,
including languages such as C++, HTML, Blitz Basic, ARexx, etc.
· A HardDrive installation utility using the standard Commodore
installer program.
· The satisfaction of knowing that you have acted kindly & generously
and help to save a poor, young child on the brink of starvation and
to help him pay for his dear mother's heart bypass operation without
which she would die and leave him alone and dejected in a world that
just doesn't care.
Well, that sounds like seven damn good reasons for registering to me - I'll
have half a dozen! (<- subliminal message). All I ask in return is £15.00.
So what's the catch you're asking yourself. Well, in the words of Sigmund
Freud, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar". But there are some of you who
may think that £15.00 is still too much; but I would like to see you get a
better (or even an equal) package for a cheaper price. After all, I have
spent the last four years of my life on the thing and although the concept
of free software is a very nice and admirable principal, it's not a very
profitable one! As Ashleigh Brilliant once said: "I either want less
corruption, or more chance to participate in it". Okay, so I'll shut up now
but you will be wondering where to send your crisp, fluffy, juicy, shiny
little fifteen pounds to won't you??? Well, wonder no longer...
F1 Software will accept cheques or UK postal orders in POUNDS STERLING ONLY
(cheques drawn on a UK bank). Access, Visa, Mastercard and Eurocards are all
accepted.
If you wish to contact me (the author) directly via e-mail, then you can
send mail to: <M.Reddy@ed.ac.uk>. PLEASE NOTE HOWEVER THAT V6.0 IS THE FINAL
RELEASE OF EDWORD. After this I will no longer have access to my Amiga (as I
have now moved country and had to restrict the stuff I took with me), and so
it will not be possible to implement any changes to EdWord beyond V6.0.
THE EDWORD PROFESSIONAL WEB PAGE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have recently developed a set of World Wide Web pages for EdWord. If you
have a WWW browser (e.g. Netscape, Mosaic etc.), then you may want to take
a look at the following URL.

THE LEGAL JARGONY STUFF!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The complete and unmodified demo version of EdWord Pro V6.0 is placed in to
the Public Domain "as-is" and may be freely redistributed via any means.
However, Martin Reddy retains full copyright on the program and it may not
be sold for profit without his expressed permission. Although EdWord Pro has
undergone extensive testing and remains a robust and reliable program,
Martin Reddy cannot be held responsible for any loss of information caused
by direct or indirect use of the program. So there!
THE END
That's all folks! Just got time to say:
"Two wrongs don't make a right.
But two Wrights made an aeroplane."
